» Fractures of Jaw Bones

Due to any accidental trauma there may be fracture of jaw bones (upper and/or lower). Whenever anybody meets with a violent accident with suspected fracture of jaw bone, it’s always advised to consult some nearest trauma centre, for first aid and medico legal formalities. The violent accidents causing a jaw bone fracture could be associated with head injury and/or injury to other vital organs. The treatment for any head injury and/or injury to other vital organs is in priority to the treatment for Jaw bone fractures and this important decision can be made in a well equipped trauma centre only.

We do all kinds of closed reductions with wire fixations under pre anesthetics and local Block anesthesia.

The earlier a patient reports less is the displacement of broken parts with lesser swelling easy and instant manipulation. Late reporting may cause infection of the abraded/lacerated wounds.

» Impactions

The last molar teeth, popularly called wisdom teeth, are at times wrongly placed in their sockets of the jaw bones, lying horizontally or at some angle to vertical. In addition they could be impacted (fused with jaw bone). Obviously they are not able to erupt normally and cause severe pain. For such impacted and misaligned teeth the only treatment is their removal. The surgery for removal of such teeth is called impaction. Dr. Parminderjit kaur has done several successful surgeries of impaction under Local anesthesia. The impacted teeth usually fail to erupt completely or partially and their exact situation is only detected with an X-ray.

» Tooth Extraction

Why you need tooth extraction?
A tooth even healthy might be required to be extracted for its wrong eruption causing pain ( Impaction) or if required in the treatment plan of Orthodontic treatment. A diseased tooth with mobile roots due to Gum disease (Periodontal) which is beyond restoration or fixation has to be removed.
Extraction :  A tooth is extracted under local block anesthesia with complete surgical aseptic techniques. The only pain you will have while putting the local block anaesthesia. If you understand well before, about how your tooth is going to be extracted, then you are least anxious & apprehensive. You will experience no pain but some discomfort due to mechanical pull-pushes at your jaw bone while extracting a firmly placed tooth or when a tooth needs to be sectioned and extracted.
Sectioning of tooth: If a tooth is firmly fused with the jaw bone in the socket or has a very curved and/or more roots than normal then the tooth requires sectioning. Some people have a misconception that the tooth is sectioned only when a surgeon breaks the tooth while extracting, this is a myth. Whenever a surgeon feels that any more efforts (manipulations) for extracting tooth is going to involve extensive damage to the socket and surrounding tissue with increased discomfort to the patient, then he goes for sectioning. Tooth extraction by sectioning is a quite common procedure.

» After Extraction Home Care

To control bleeding after extraction a cotton swab is placed in the empty socket and the patient is asked to keep it pressed by biting on it. The patient is strictly advised for not to spit and/or rinse the mouth. Normally it takes about one hour to stop the bleeding completely and then the cotton swab is to be removed by the patient. The patients are advised to take, some cold semi liquid or liquid food for one day.

In a few cases the bleeding may persist even after one hour. In such case, after rinsing with ice cold water for few minutes, put a cotton swab in to the socket, and again keep it pressed by biting for one hour. The bleeding will invariably stop. If the bleeding still doesn’t stop then patient should report to his doctor.
